Your Child’s Safety Isn’t a Feature—It’s a Foundation.
At Frontier Tutoring, we understand that when you entrust your child to us—whether for SAT prep, chemistry tutoring, or cello lessons—you’re not just choosing an educational service. You’re choosing a partner in your child’s development. And at the core of that partnership is trust.
We don’t take that lightly.
That’s why student safety—emotional, physical, and psychological—is at the heart of everything we do. From the moment a potential employee applies to work with us, to the ongoing monitoring and support of our lessons, we’ve designed and implemented a multi-layered safety infrastructure that leaves as little as possible to chance.
Here’s how we do it.
We don’t believe in second chances when it comes to student safety. These measures help ensure that every adult working under our name has earned your trust—and keeps earning it.
At Frontier Tutoring, trust starts with who we allow in the room—whether that’s an online Zoom room or one of our Anchorage classrooms. That’s why every employee, contractor, and volunteer who works with students undergoes one of the most comprehensive background checks in the educational services industry.
Here’s what we include in every screening:
Federal, state, and local criminal records checks
State and National sex offender registry screening
Domestic and international watchlist screenings
Employment history verification
Education verification
These checks aren’t just robust—they’re also legally compliant with federal standards designed to protect vulnerable populations. Specifically, we meet the background check and character standards set forth by the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (ICPA), codified at 25 U.S.C. § 3207.
That means no individual is allowed to provide services to students if they have been convicted of (or pleaded guilty, no contest, or nolo contendere to):
We also have a zero-tolerance policy for any staff member who is charged with such a crime during their employment. If that happens, we remove the individual from all duties involving students immediately and notify any relevant clients or partner agencies. The conviction of such a crime is immediately disqualifying of employment
We don’t believe in second chances when it comes to student safety. These measures help ensure that every adult working under our name has earned your trust—and keeps earning it.
At Frontier Tutoring, we believe hiring the right people is the single most important thing we can do to keep students safe. That’s why we don’t stop at background checks—we also conduct a behavioral interview screening process inspired by the CDC’s guidelines for youth-serving organizations.
These structured interviews are designed to go deeper than a resume. They help us assess each applicant’s emotional maturity, judgment, and attitudes toward working with young people—especially in situations that involve authority, boundaries, and trust.
We don’t publicize the exact questions we use, because doing so could reduce their effectiveness. But we can tell you this: the questions are carefully designed to surface red flags—like a lack of boundaries, over-identification with specific age groups, or discomfort with supervision. In many cases, they also help us identify applicants who are exceptionally well-suited for this work: people who are grounded, thoughtful, and truly committed to helping students grow.
This extra layer of screening has proven to be one of our most effective tools in preventing harm before it can happen. While it may add time to our hiring process, it’s time well spent—because prevention always beats reaction.
Our commitment to student safety doesn’t end at hiring. Every Frontier Tutoring team member—whether a test prep instructor, academic tutor, or administrative staff—completes annual training on student safety and sexual harassment prevention.
This training isn’t just about ticking a compliance box. It’s a dynamic program developed both in-house and in partnership with external experts, and it’s updated annually or any time our policies change. We cover:
Recognizing and preventing grooming behavior
Setting and maintaining appropriate physical and emotional boundaries
Mandatory reporting obligations under Alaska law
Proper use of communication tools, including what is and isn’t appropriate in text, email, or chat interactions with students
Crisis response and escalation protocols
We don’t just want our employees to avoid inappropriate behavior—we want them to model exceptional behavior. That’s why our training emphasizes proactive professionalism, empathy, and the ability to build meaningful, appropriate rapport with students of all ages.
We don’t believe in “set it and forget it” instruction. Whether your student is meeting with their tutor in our Anchorage office or logging in from home, every session is monitored, recorded, and reviewable.
In-person sessions are recorded with video and audio surveillance in all tutoring rooms.
Online sessions are automatically recorded and stored for quality assurance and safety oversight.
Instructional review is an active part of our training program. Managers can and do review session footage for coaching, support, and accountability.
But monitoring goes beyond the sessions themselves. We also tightly control how tutors and students communicate outside of scheduled lessons. Which brings us to a key safety safeguard:
Tutors are never allowed to communicate with students outside of company-managed systems. No texting. No personal calls. No exceptions. All communication is routed through secure, reviewable platforms—including recorded calls and archived emails. This policy protects students and tutors alike, and it’s one of the most important boundaries we enforce.
This multi-layered monitoring structure ensures that your student is always learning in a safe, professional, and well-supported environment.
All employees working on-site at our Anchorage location must badge in and out of the facility using electronic access cards. This allows us to:
Ensure that only authorized personnel are in student areas.
Maintain an accurate log of who was on-site and when.
Respond swiftly in the event of an emergency or concern.
In addition, all visitors—including parents—must sign in at the front desk and may be required to provide ID before being allowed access to any student-facing area.
We take the concept of a “controlled environment” seriously. Whether it’s our physical offices or our digital learning spaces, we work hard to ensure your child is never left vulnerable.
Despite every best effort, emergencies can happen. When they do, we are ready.
Our safety policies include detailed response protocols for a wide range of scenarios, including:
Medical emergencies during lessons
Natural disasters such as earthquakes or fires (particularly relevant here in Alaska)
Situations involving suspected abuse or neglect
Allegations or concerns about inappropriate conduct by a staff member
Every employee is trained on how to respond, who to contact, and what documentation is required. We follow all Alaska state laws regarding mandatory reporting and have clear lines of communication with local child welfare agencies when needed.
When an incident occurs, our team investigates thoroughly and swiftly. We don’t sweep issues under the rug—we address them head-on and transparently, always with the student’s best interest as our first priority.
As a parent, you’re probably used to vetting every program your child engages with. You ask questions. You read reviews. You check references. And you should.
But it’s often hard to know what’s going on behind the scenes. That’s why we believe in making our safety practices visible—because trust shouldn’t have to be blind.
You deserve to know that:
We’re thoughtful about who we hire.
We take training seriously.
We monitor every session.
We control who enters our buildings.
We have a plan for the unexpected.
This isn’t a side program for us. It’s a cornerstone of our culture.
At Frontier Tutoring, we believe that effective learning can only happen when students feel safe. That’s not just a theory—it’s supported by years of research in child development and education. Students who feel safe are more confident, more engaged, and more likely to take the academic risks required for growth.
That’s why we invest so heavily in student safety—not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s essential for learning.
We’re proud of the systems we’ve put in place. But even more than that, we’re proud of the trust families like yours have placed in us.
If you ever have a question about our safety policies, we invite you to reach out. Because at Frontier Tutoring, we believe in earning your trust—every single day.
